This position assists the Community Development Director by responding to inquiries in regards to zoning regulations, maintaining and updating files, forms, and office systems, assisting with zoning reviews using a prepared checklist, and preparation of annual calendars and other documents. Other duties include administrative support for Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission as well as recording meeting minutes during the evening meetings.

URP Academic Teaching Specialist – Continuing Appointment

Michigan State University

Position Summary

The School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University seeks a full-time academic specialist with continuing appointment to teach core Urban & Regional Planning program curricula.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching/professional experience and a willingness to teach across the Planning Curriculum, with interest in incorporating multicultural perspectives into teaching. The position starts August 16, 2025.

This is a 12-month, 90% teaching and 10% service position. The Academic Specialist will teach in-person core courses with an expected load of three courses per academic semester and two online courses in summer.  This may change based on program needs.  Current program needs include introductory planning history and theory, economic development, land use and land management, planning practice and planning process and development review.  This person will teach graduate and undergraduate courses, some are large classes with seats of more than 100. This person will also assist with program needs and priorities such as student recruitment activities, student advising, curriculum assessments, etc.

Division.  We are looking for an enthusiastic individual that wants to assist in making Pontiac a great

Under the supervision of the Planning Manager, the Planner I will participate in the following activities:
review plans for compliance with zoning code requirements, perform research and writing of reports
relating to various planning and construction projects, perform basic GIS analysis and prepare maps,
answer questions of the general public and guide applicants through the planning and building permit
approval process.  Assist as necessary within the planning and zoning division, perform work on
concurrent projects and meet deadlines, participate in the master planning process, provide other
municipal planning functions, other duties as required.

This is a hands-on position that will work side by side with the divisions of Building Safety, Code
Enforcement, and Economic Development within the Community Development Department. The
candidate must have the ability to multi-task, work on multiple projects, and meet deadlines. This is a
hands-on position that will provide support to front counter staff for walk-in clients, telephone and
email inquiries. The position may present cases to the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals,
the Historic District Commission, and various other boards, committees, and commissions as directed.
Employee must maintain regular attendance and may need to attend occasional night meetings.

Senior Assistant City Attorney - Land Use

Role Summary:
To provide highly responsible and effective legal services within the City Attorney’s Office to Service Area Administrators
in several areas. To act as primary liaison to the Community Services Area Administrator and to several other City
related entities as noted under essential duties.

Attorney may perform some of the duties from a remote location, but will be required to work on-site for at least one
day per week, and to also be available for additional on-site meetings as required. The number of days required to

Education, Training and Experience Required:
- Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from accredited law school
- Current member of Michigan State Bar Association or ability to become member
- 10-12 years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of land use and/or real estate law
- Experience with WestLaw or other similar legal research sites
- Demonstrated excellent writing skills
- Demonstrated excellent contract drafting skills

- Leadership position in municipal office or in law firm

Part-Time Zoning Coordinator

City of Ann Arbor

The City of Ann Arbor is seeking a part-time Zoning Coordinator. This role will investigate and resolve zoning violations, review permits for zoning compliance, and other related roles. The position will perform inspections relating to permits including fences, sheds, certificate of occupancy permits, and other related functions. This is a part-time AFSCME union position with a starting wage of $28.44 per hour, up to 25 hours per week. A valid Michigan driver’s license is required.
