This role coordinates internships with colleges, including preparing job descriptions, candidate evaluations, and recommendations for hiring.
A Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent in public administration, urban planning, or a related field. Two to five years of experience in planning, economic development, and the related municipal environment is preferred. Continuing education credits applicable to American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification, Citizen Planner Program, or Master Citizen Planner credential preferred.
Salary range: $26.40 - $39.62 per hour DOQ, plus excellent benefits.

This position will be responsible for coordinating development of the Western Upper Peninsula Materials Management Plan (MMP) and conducting related outreach and external engagement. The position will organize and coordinate the high-level planning process and will represent WUPPDR in meetings with local officials and organizations. Significant regional travel will be required, including some in evening hours. Subsequent to plan development, the position will coordinate and conduct implementation activities included in the plan and will continue to engage with local officials.
The six-county MMP will address management of solid waste, recyclable materials, diverted (e.g. hazardous) waste, and compostable materials. Though the final plan format is undetermined, pending additional information from the State of Michigan, it will likely contain regional and county profiles, infrastructure and service inventories, statistical information, benchmark and target metrics, and goals, objectives, and implementation strategies. The plan itself will be developed primarily either by a consultant or additional WUPPDR staff.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in planning; environmental policy, studies, or science; natural resources; sustainability; or other relevant field. Minimum one year experience in relevant field, including demonstrable experience in multi-stakeholder engagement and project management. Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

The City of Marshall has an exciting opportunity for the right public service-oriented individual to become our next Community Development Director/Zoning Administrator. The selected individual will have the unique opportunity to help guide the community’s future as we craft our Master Plan and facilitate the development of Ford BlueOval Battery Park and its anticipated growth opportunities. The Director reports to the City Manager and will be an integral part of the City’s success going forward. An annual salary is being offered at $85,000-$90,000 depending on experience and skill set. Under the direct supervision of the City Manager, this position demands a high level of responsibility to plan, organize, and direct all activities of the Community Development Department, including planning, zoning, building inspection & review, and code enforcement. Responsible for the efficient and effective use of department resources, including personnel, budgeted funds, grant funds and facilities to accomplish objectives that support City goals & objectives. Charged with implementing the vision of the City’s Master Plan and related strategic goals. Supports the City’s economic development activities by participating in pre-development meetings or walkthroughs. Serves a leadership role in the new development process.

Requirements:

Job Description:
Dexter Township is seeking a full-time Planning and Zoning Administrator. This position is responsible for issuing zoning permits, responding to in-person, email and telephone public inquiries,
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists in the day-to-day planning and zoning operations, including processing zoning permits, lot split and boundary line adjustments, and new address applications.
- Serves as the staff liaison to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA).
- Responds to inquiries from the public, contractors, and other parties regarding zoning matters.
- Assist the Code Enforcement Officer with processing complaints regarding code violations and pursues action when necessary.
- Maintains a complex record-keeping system (BS&A) for zoning-related documents, according to established standards.
- Creates, updates, and maintains zoning files, office forms, handouts, and computer databases.
- Administers field inspections for code enforcement complaints and zoning permit compliance.
Education Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Urban Affairs, or a closely related field.
Experience Requirements:
- 3-5 years of government experience (municipal preferred)
- Knowledge of municipal operations as they relate to development, stormwater management, utilities, roads, and constructions.
- Skill in evaluating complex planning, land-use and zoning code guidelines.
- Skill in reading and interpreting civil engineered drawings, surveys, and construction documents.
- Ability to attend meetings outside of normal business hours.
