Planning Advocate Award

James Bier
City of St. Clair

In 1992, Jim was appointed to the City of St. Clair ZBA, where he has served nearly continuously, most often as Chair. He also chaired a process to update the City's sign ordinance, a committee responsible for the design and construction of a new city hall. He is currently involved in a comprehensive rewrite of the zoning ordinance.

One letter of supported noted that because of Jim's involvement, the St. Clair County Parks and Recreation Commission, has achieved remarkable milestones such as trail development, acquisition and restoration of the Fort Gratiot Light Station, and several millage renewals. Jurors said, "James has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to advancing planning and community development through more than three decades of volunteer leadership and public service."

Congratulations to James Bier!
