MAP Board Seeks Input on Surface Transportation Policy

The MAP Government Relations Committee focused its efforts over the last year updating the Surface Transportation Policy, which was originally adopted in 2005. The significantly expanded policy language now provides better context for the policy statements, foundational research that supports the recommendations, and additional themes including placemaking to attract the talent class, social equity, intermodal transportation opportunities, and the creation of complete street systems for all users of all abilities.

You can read the draft policy here. Please send input, comments and suggestions to the MAP Government Relations Committee via Andrea Brown, MAP Executive Director, at abrown@planningmi.org. If you know of other stakeholders whose expertise would add value to this policy, please forward it on to them as well.

Active Communities are Vibrant Communities

You can help turn your community into a more active, livable, economically viable community by participating in the Promoting Active Communities (PAC) program. Increased opportunities for physical activity can provide improved air quality, higher real estate values and better public health. Learn more.

$250,000 in Partnerships for Change Service Grants Available

The PfC Sustainable Communities Program was developed with assistance from MAP. The overall mission of this program is to foster new and expanded cooperation between cities, townships and villages in developing local land use policies and programs that contribute to the preservation of cultural and natural resources and encourage urban redevelopment while discouraging inefficient, low density development. Learn more about the available grants.

Save Gas Money! MAP Workshops Come to You

Your community's planning officials don't have to spend money on gas to drive very far to attend MAP training programs. MAP's on-site workshop program brings the training to you. At an on-site workshop an instructor comes to your location, at a time and date convenient for your participants, and presents a comprehensive educational program, addressing the specific needs of your community. Click here to learn more about the program.
